Questions

Do I need Making Tax Digital for Income Tax?

From 6 April 2026 if your rental and self-employed income together is over £50,000; over £30,000 from April 2027 and over £20,000 from April 2028. Below that you can still join.

I have a job as well. Is that covered?

Yes. HMRC adds your salary and the tax already paid, so there's nothing extra to record.

Who isn't it for?

Property outside the UK, self-employed turnover of £90,000 or more, property owned by a company, partnership or trust, and accountants or agents filing for clients.

Can I keep using my spreadsheet?

Yes. Choose "Upload my own spreadsheet" when you sign up and upload your file each quarter (or the 9 VAT boxes for VAT).
