Terms of use
Last updated 1 November 2026
These terms apply when you use TaxoLink (taxolink.co.uk). TaxoLink is run by a sole trader trading as TaxoLink. Business address: 4 Sandal Avenue, Leicester, LE4 5HZ. In these terms "we" and "us" mean TaxoLink. By creating an account you agree to them. Contact: [email protected].
What the service does
- Making Tax Digital for Income Tax: for UK landlords and self-employed people (sole traders). Keep digital records of income and expenses (or upload your own spreadsheet), send cumulative quarterly updates, and complete your tax return (final declaration) with HMRC.
- Making Tax Digital for VAT: for VAT-registered businesses filing their own VAT. Record invoices so we work out your VAT return, or upload the 9 box totals from your own spreadsheet, and send the return to HMRC.
We connect to HMRC only with your permission, and send something only after you have reviewed it and confirmed it (for VAT, after you agree to HMRC's declaration).
What the service doesn't do
- It isn't tax, legal or accounting advice. If you're unsure how to treat income or an expense, ask an accountant or HMRC.
- It doesn't work out your tax itself. HMRC calculates any tax due; we show HMRC's figures.
- Income Tax: it doesn't cover foreign property, or self-employed turnover of £90,000 or more (where HMRC needs expenses in categories).
- VAT: working out returns from invoices doesn't cover the Cash Accounting Scheme, retail schemes or the Tour Operators' Margin Scheme; use the spreadsheet option for those.
- It isn't for agents or accountants filing for clients.
Your responsibilities
- What you send to HMRC is your responsibility. Check the figures before you confirm each update, return or declaration.
- Keep complete records, record full amounts, and set the correct ownership share for jointly owned properties.
- If you upload a spreadsheet, its figures must come from your records digitally (by formula or link), as HMRC's digital links rules require.
- Sign in to HMRC with your own Government Gateway account (for VAT, the one for your business's VAT).
- Keep your password and email account secure, and tell us straight away if you think someone else has accessed your account.
- Only upload information you're allowed to use, and don't misuse the service or try to access other people's data.
- Meet HMRC's deadlines. We show the deadlines HMRC gives us and can email reminders, but HMRC's own records are final.
HMRC connection
When you connect, you give TaxoLink permission at HMRC, for up to 18 months, to view and send your Self Assessment information (Income Tax) or your VAT information (VAT). You can withdraw it at any time in the app or at HMRC. We send HMRC the fraud prevention information the law requires. We never see your HMRC password.
Availability
We aim to keep the service available but can't promise it will always be uninterrupted, including when HMRC's systems are unavailable. Leave enough time before deadlines.
Fees
We'll show the price, what it includes and how often you pay before you're charged anything. You can cancel at any time; your records stay available to download.
Your data
Your records belong to you. You can download them at any time (Profile → Download my data). How we handle personal information is explained in our privacy policy.
Liability
We provide the service with reasonable care and skill. We aren't responsible for losses caused by figures you entered or confirmed, by HMRC's systems, or by events outside our reasonable control. Where we are responsible, our liability to a business customer is limited to the fees paid in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law, such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence or for fraud, or your statutory rights as a consumer.
Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time from Profile → Delete my account: everything we hold for you is deleted at once and can't be brought back, so download your records first (you must keep them for as long as HMRC requires). What you sent to HMRC stays with HMRC. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms.
Changes and law
We'll give notice of important changes. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction; if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland you can also bring proceedings there.
